I attend the PADI open Water course on the beautiful Island of Cabilao in the Philippines. Irina was my PADI instructor and I was her only student at that time.
The first underwater exercise looked easy, as Irina showed me exactly what to do so I could repeat it.
It was the mask “flooding” 3 meters under water. No problem for me 😉
Irina pressed firmly at the top of her mask and the mask slowly filled up with water.
Then she gave me the sign to fill my mask as well. Oh my God! I was struggling with myself, whether I should give up or continue the course. This slow filling was somehow a problem for me.
Irina recognised my fear and calmed me down. She realised that it was better for me to take off the mask completely – and it worked! Irina’s professionalism and guidance helped me out of this nightmare!
What a great feeling after I passed the exam and practical lessons. To dive without fear in such a beautiful place as Cabilao and with experienced divers!

Diving is like flying. Flying in slow motion in a world with such colourful fish and coral. Just great.
I can compare now with Dauin and Apo Island, and Cabilao is a great place to go diving! Thank you Irina for the great course! Perhaps I might do the advanced course with you?

Like a dream…back to Europe it all seems like a dream. Doing my open water course with Irina was just one of the best things I have done in my life. I was always a bit scared of diving…it is a strange thing for a terrestrial mammal to go swimming with the fish and to breathe under water.
But Irina just did the trick! With her easy going way learning to dive was just a piece of cake. And what a cake it was. After two days I felt really comfortable under water. I couldn’t believe I was her first open water student.
I just received my open water diver card yesterday and I am really proud of it.

Thank you Irina, for showing me everything. Without you, I would still have to stick to aquariums. Hope that you are going to have a long and great career as a diving instructor!
